"The Sherwood Give n' Gobble has become one of Oregon's premiere Thanksgiving Day's turkey trots... 'The Give n' Gobble is such an amazing community event. The race truly consumes Sherwood. You are running through neighborhoods where the community greets you on their doorsteps as you run by. This is awesome!' "

"While running a 5- or 10-kilometer race may not sound like fun to
some, it was for nearly 500 people who turned out for the Give
'N Gobble Run and Food Drive in Sherwood. Providence Newberg was
a proud sponsor of this race that raised $5,000 and collected more than
450 pounds of food for Helping Hands in Sherwood. Larry Bowe,
Providence Newberg Medical Center's chief executive, rallied his family
to participate in the event. "It was a great way for us to do
something active together on what's normally a pretty mellow
day," he said. "It was wonderful to see such a large turnout for a firsttime
event.""

Drive to eliminate hunger...
"I have been wanting to put something like this together for the last couple of years because
there are so many runners and walkers in this area that are out there
on Thanksgiving rain or shine anyway, so why not do it together and for a
good cause. This seemed like the perfect year to start a new tradition," said
race organizer Cindy Aggson. The Give ‘n' Gobble team reached their initial
goal of raising $5,000 through sponsorships and registration. Some 30
local businesses sponsored the new event."
