“We are incredibly grateful that Sherwood will be able to continue the tradition of giving back, and staying active together as a community, through our partnership with the amazing team at the Sherwood YMCA! Their help, starting with the Give n’ Gobble in 2023, makes sure that we can continue this popular tradition. Their energy, resources, and aligned mission to help the community make them the ideal partner and I have no doubt that this will be another fun and successful year under their leadership!” -Cindy Aggson, Event Founder.
Since 2007, walkers and runners of all ages have gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving morning together at this “turkey trot Portland” themed event. The goal has always been simple, connect with family, friends, and neighbors while burning a few calories…and giving back. That simple goal has raised over $500,000 and 80,000 lbs. of food donations for local families in need, plus funded the Helping Hands Backpack Meals for Kids program, which has provided over 100,000 meals for at risk children. This fun and heart-warming event has become a Thanksgiving holiday tradition, drawing an average of 2,200 participants on Thanksgiving morning.
“Partnering with the Give n’ Gobble is a wonderful extension of our mission at the YMCA. We are excited to continue this tradition of bringing together the community in supporting our neighbors who experience food insecurity,” says Melody Danner, Leader of Social Responsibility and Chaplain at the Sherwood YMCA.
